Red Carpet Rollout of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom Continues

The national rollout of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom continued this week with premieres in East London on Thursday, and Cape Town last night ahead of the special sneak previews taking place this weekend across the country.

Walking the red carpet at the East London premiere were principal cast members Tony Kgoroge, Terry Pheto, Atandwa Kani, Zolani Mkiva and the Eastern Cape based cast including the 10-year old Siza Pini who plays Mandela as a child. The Mandela family was represented by Mandla Mandela's wife Nodiyala, Zwelithembile Mandela, Mvezo village head Jongisizwe Dani and the Mvezo Traditional Council. Xhosa King Zwelonke Sigcawu, regional government officials, the CEO and senior management of the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu were also present.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom Premieres in  New York

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom made its New York debut last night at the Alice Tully Hall in Broadway. Producer, Anant Singh led the team from South Africa which included actors Tony Kgoroge and Terry Pheto, as well as Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi who walked the red carpet with Idris Elba, Naomie Harris and director, Justin Chadwick.

Success of Mandela Film Acknowledged in National Assembly

The successful debut of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom at the Toronto Film Festival in September, was recently acknowledged in a motion in the National Assembly by the Deputy Chief Whip of the Majority Party, Ms Dorris Dlakude which was agreed to by all parties.

Quoted in the Minutes of Proceedings of the National Assembly on 12 September, Ms Dlakude succinctly captured what the film means to South Africa in her motion that the House"
