Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom Premieres in New York
/Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom made its New York debut last night at the Alice Tully Hall in Broadway. Producer, Anant Singh led the team from South Africa which included actors Tony Kgoroge and Terry Pheto, as well as Nelson Mandela's daughter Zindzi who walked the red carpet with Idris Elba, Naomie Harris and director, Justin Chadwick.
The premiere had a large celebrity attendance with Ronnie Wood (Rolling Stones) and Sally Wood, Tony Bennett, Rosario Dawson, Michael Strahan, Donna Karan, Rosie Perez, 50 Cent, Gayle King, Regis and Joy Philbin, Epatha Merkerson, R. Kelly, Ashanti, Zuleikha Robinson (Homeland), Adewale Akinnouye-Agbaje (Thor), Candice Swanepoel, Dominique Piek, Liya Kebede, Victor Cruz, Al Sharpton, Tony Danza, Carmen Ejogo, Anja Rubik, Christian Campbell and America Olivo, Jess Weixler (The Good Wife), Emily Bergl, Jaime Cepero (Smash), Zac Posen, Pat Cleveland, Larry Gagosian, June Ambrose, Alex and Keytt Lundqvist, Garrett Neff, Luke Parker-Bowles, Fern Mallis, Amy Sacco, Drew Nieporent, Antoine Verglas and Christiane Celle, Lorraine Schwartz, Hanneli Mustaparta, Daniel Benedict, David Zinczenko. Also in attendance was former Principal Secretary of the UN Special Committee against Apartheid, Dr. Enuga Reddy.
Speaking after the event, Anant Singh said, "The New York premiere marks the official launch of the film in the United States. I am delighted that Tony Kgoroge and Terry Pheto are here to share this occasion with us. Having Zindzi with us is very special as she represents Madiba in spirit."
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom will have a platformed release in the United States starting on 29 November in New York and Los Angeles and expanding to over one thousand screens across the United States in the third week of December.
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom will be released at cinemas throughout South Africa on 28 November 2013.
