"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Maya Angelou.

Maya was an exceptional woman; inspiring, powerful, heroic and majestic. It was a privilege to meet her when she attended Madiba's inauguration and to have seen her perform on the eve of the inauguration at the Market Theatre where she celebrated Madiba and his achievements.

Madiba had a special place in his heart for her and now they are together in the afterlife.

We will miss them both."
